Birding at Swan Creek Wetland (access by guided tour only)

It was a rainy, chilly, overcast morning. We did not have much luck birding along the woods, but when we came out to this basin we had a number of shorebirds, including a couple of rarities - Buff-breasted Sandpiper and American Golden-Plovers (on the island). The red clay made for some interesting shots. We had 5 American Avocets, these avocets were dabbling like ducks - I had not witnessed this behavior before. I was also able to get both the Greater and the Lesser Yellowlegs in the same shot, and a Semipalmated and Least Sandpiper in the same shot.

Our total species count was 63, which included 32 Blue-winged Teal, 419 Northern Shovelers and 126 Green-winged Teals.

We had a view of the Key Bridge (or what’s left of it) from this location - it was kind of eerie.
