Great Horned Owl Nest
2023 Season

As you may already be aware, I am a volunteer at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC). I have monitored a number of nests at CBEC over the last couple of years (see Nest Monitoring in navigation bar above), including this Great Horned Owl. In the 2021 nesting season I recorded my observations, including pictures of the owlets as they grew to fledglings. Last year CBEC installed a camera at the previous year’s nest site. The pair began the nesting cycle with pair bonding, but suddenly abandoned their effort. We were not sure if the pair had come to the end of their nesting life or if they were going through a non nesting year. Now, in the 2023 season she is nesting again. I will be following developments and posting my observations and related information here.
