Nest box installed

All looks good. There is a depression in the wood chips which means (most likely) kestrels or a screech owl is roosting here.

Looks like a pileated woodpecker is building a home in the kestrel nest tree, high above the nest box.

No change in the kestrel nest, but it appears I may be monitoring a pileated woodpecker nest. Kestrels have not been seen in the area over the last few weeks, this pair may have migrated. I will continue to check the nest. We are now in the mating season.

No change. I also did not see the pileated woodpecker, but I think I heard it working on the nest cavity from inside. At this point I am doubtful kestrels will be taking the box, but I will continue to monitor.

No change. Appears I will not be getting nesting kestrels, sadly. I did not see the pileated woodpeckers but the cavity looks very used and I suspect she in incubating. I will continue to monitor the woodpeckers and might as well check on the kestrel box while here.

Last nest check - No change in the kestrel box and no sign of the pileated woodpeckers.
