Are you interested in helping to conserve bird habitat?

Consider buying a Federal Duck Stamp

The Duck Stamp, also known as the Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, is much more than just a stamp. It is a powerful and effective tool that has been instrumental in the conservation of wetlands and waterfowl populations across the United States. Since its inception in 1934, the Duck Stamp has become a symbol of conservation success, providing significant support for habitat preservation and restoration. The concept behind the Duck Stamp is simple yet impactful. Hunters aged 16 and older are required to purchase a Duck Stamp before engaging in migratory bird hunting. The proceeds from the sales of these stamps are then dedicated to acquiring and protecting habitats for waterfowl and other species.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Duck Stamp program is the broad coalition it brings together. Wildlife agencies, hunters, birdwatchers, conservationists, and artists all play a significant role in its success. Each year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service holds an art contest to select the design for the new Duck Stamp. This competition generates excitement and engages artists from across the nation, resulting in stunning vignettes that highlight different waterfowl species and their habitats.

The impact of the Duck Stamp dollars cannot be overstated. Over 6 million acres of wetlands and associated uplands have been conserved with the help of these funds. These protected areas benefit not only waterfowl but also a myriad of other bird species and countless wildlife populations. Additionally, the preservation and restoration of wetlands contribute to improved water quality, flood control, carbon sequestration, and enhanced recreational opportunities for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.

In addition, the stamp acts as a free pass into National Wildlife Refuges, it’s a win win! These stamps can be purchased from varies sources including the U.S. Post Office. I have bought these, laminated them and attach them to my backpack.

The Junior Duck Stamp contest was added to the program, the proceeds of which go toward conservation education.
