Day One
What a difference a year makes - the weather last year was mostly poor for the Cape May trip, this year all days were gorgeous. Cool mornings & evenings, then warming throughout the day. There are 10 folks from the Anne Arundel Bird Club attending this trip. Most of us took the 8:45am ferry out of Lewes, Delaware to arrive at the hawk watch about 10:00am. It was clear, 55F with W winds about 7mph.

The flyovers were a bit slow when we arrived - what stole the show was a Cape May Warbler in a juniper tree right next to the the hawk watch deck. He was busy feeding and didn’t seem bothered by the attention (as long as you didn’t get too close).
After some time at the hawk watch we walked the yellow/blue trail. There was a rare sighting at the hawk watch pond - an Eared Grebe. This was a life bird for me and others on the trip. Next, some of us headed over to the Cape May Bird Observatory, Northwood Center. We walked around the garden and the street in front of the center. The area was a bit active, we saw 10 species including 4 species of warblers. It was partly cloudy, 67F S winds 3mph.
