Did you know?

  • They will fledge at approximately 55 days old. It may be as late as 78 days, or as short as 30 days.

29 April - (approx. 46 days old) - I monitored the nest for approximately 10 hours today (the road flooded so I got stuck there). The owlets were extremely active at times, developing the skills to fledge. They got on the edge of tire, sometimes jumping to the other side and flapping their wings. They also found a stick that they could practice dexterity. They spent time preening and as siblings do, they picked at each other. There had been a strong rain the night before so when I got there in the morning they were still wet.

Cloudy, 61F NW winds 7mph

Siblings will be siblings…..

Building up strength and balance.

They spend a lot of time preening.

They spend time stretching and scratching.

As you can see in the pictures, there was a stick positioned between the tire and the tree. They found it and practiced using their talons and beak.

Mom stayed close by all day.
