Kirtland’s Warbler

Rare Bird

Seen in Baltimore, MD on 7 October 2021

This is a Kirtland’s Warbler, first seen on 4 October at Swann Park in Baltimore, MD. This is the largest and one of the rarest warblers. It only breeds in young jack pine forests in northern Michigan and Wisconsin and winters in the Bahamas. It is rarely seen migrating. It’s been reported this is the first time it has been seen in Maryland. It was still there on 7 October, so I joined the many birders to witness this historical sighting (and was fortunate to see it and get pictures).
