Day Three

Today is birding at La Paz Waterfall Gardens in Heredia, about a 1.5 hour drive from Atenas. It is the largest animal Sanctuary in Costa Rica. In addition to the captive birds and animals, there are trails that run through the rain forest and offer the opportunity to see birds in the wild. It’s a beautiful place. They have a hummingbird garden where I saw the largest of the hummingbirds - the violet sabrewing. I also saw the rufous-tailed hummingbird and the crowned woodnymph hummingbird.

I added additional new birds at this beautiful location.

Once we headed into the rain forest it was difficult to see birds since the vegetation was so thick, but I did see a black-and-white warbler (not new to me) and a tropical parula.

After a full day of birding I was relaxing on the back deck with a glass of wine where I saw a palm tanager.
