Audience: Beginner - Intermediate

Objective: Become more efficient at identifying raptors while in flight.

Homework - Go visit a hawk watch near you.

Let’s learn how to identify raptors

Identifying raptors can be difficult, especially when in flight. Sometimes they are not much more than a speck in the sky, or the lighting (too bright/too dark) makes it a challenge. I would like to become better at this so I decided to use some of my pictures to practice methods of ID. Most of these pictures are not clear, nor closeups - but when you’re at a hawk watch or out birding you often only get a glimpse and they are usually in the distance.
